JEFFREY GIBBS

Hi, I'm the Writing Center director and I've been working at Hisar since 2010, teaching everything from a high school film course, to English in the 6th through 9th grades, to drama. To write is to give shape to the chaos of life. When I write things down into stories and narratives, I see the meaning behind my experiences. When not writing, you can usually find me traveling, eating something new, or practicing whatever new language I'm into.

STEPHEN FREER

Greetings! I get to be the Assistant Director here at the center, and it's my 8th year at Hisar. I enjoy what I do because I know how important writing can be. I grew up in a rural town that felt microscopic as a high schooler. I could not envision the wonderful experiences and places that lay ahead of me. Writing opened the door to it all. Outside of Hisar, you might find me listening to a baseball podcast, writing children stories, and watching Netflix before, after and in between those activities.

NED ENTRIKIN

I've been a teacher at Hisar off and on since 2007. I head the high school English Department, and I spend the rest of my time in the Writing Center. Writing is among the most important things in my life, and I hope to share some of my enthusiasm for it with others. I also like semolina pudding and sculpting with corn husks.

Hello! I am super excited to join the Writing Center community this year! I am the coordinator of the community service projects at the high school, and I also teach AP Psychology. Writing is an integral part of learning about ourselves and our environment and I love being a part of the writing journeys of different people. When I'm not writing -- you can find me reading! I especially enjoy feminst science fiction.

Hey! I've been a prisoner at Hisar since kindergarten. I find that writing is the only way to find relief in the insanity of the world and I'm here at the writing center on thursdays to help you do the same. Hello, my name is Eda Merbeyolu, and I am in my 11th year at Hisar School, although this is my first year at the writing center. I adore writing since it is one of the few avenues for someone to express themselves and allow their imagination run wild. I like to write small snippets of my day or an incident that happened that I don't want to forget. When I'm not doing schoolwork, I'm probably crocheting, knitting, or painting.

Hello. I have been a Hisar student since kindergarten. It’s been a long time since. To me, writing is very confessional. Hello I’m Duru, a senior at Hisar :)) Although writing has been a staple of everyone’s lives since we pick up our first pen, I fell in love with communicating through writing two years ago, once I understood the ink was a bridge between the abstract and the concrete. Letting the paper bring the modes and invisible systems in my mind to life, writing has been my companion ever since. The process of thinking and writing can become overwhelming at times. I wanted to become a consultant at the Writing Center to help others with this process I love.

Hello everyone! My name is Efe Erman and I have been in Hisar for the past two years. I'm currently in Grade 12 and have lived abroad in Toronto, Canada for six years. I’m available to set an appointment after school, but I would happily work during different times if you contact me beforehand. Hello, my name is Gulin, I am a senior at Hisar School. I am not a great writer, but I enjoy writing whenever I am having trouble or feeling down. Writing became my escape from my thoughts which was a huge help to my mental health which also improved my writing skills. I like trying new things, for example, right now I am trying to master the skill of eyeliner, which is really hard. Hi all! I’m Hazal — a 12th grade student. My passions include science, mathematics, and writing, of course. Writing is the medium that I am most comfortable expressing myself with; it allows for complete creative freedom. A lot of my time is spent writing fiction or scientific articles. Sometimes just jotting down ideas or sentences I think would make for an interesting piece, creating worlds more ideal than reality, or perhaps those more dystopian. Hi I’m Lal from 10D and I recently became a tutor at the Writing Center. To be honest, unlike most of the other tutors, I don’t really use writing as a coping mechanism or see it as an escape. It isn’t something I actually do in my free time, I usually like it when I’m interested in the topic though. However, I am extremely happy to be able to help others. Hi, I’m Maral :) I am a 10th grader. I’ve been in Hisar since kindergarten and it has been quite a long ride. I’m in the writing center for the last two periods of every Monday. Writing can sometimes be dull and unexciting though it is quite a stress-relief if I am writing a creative story. It helps me bring those creative ideas that are buried deep down in our mind, which is full of the monotonous lifestyle we lead, to the surface and on to the paper. If I’m not stuck behind these desks, I’m probably playing handball or just wasting my time doing basically nothing.

Hi everyone!! My name is Mina and I'm a senior here in Hisar. I'm online at the Writing Center on the last two periods of Tuesday. Although I'm a realistic person in real life, I find myself to be dreamer in my writing. I find writing a way to explore and learn new things about myself as I get to see aspects of myself I wouldn’t normally see. I enjoy writing creative stories, where I have the ability to create characters and give them different personalities and lives. I love the way I get to experience a whole other universe that’s so different then the one I live in. Besides writing stories, I spend my time either in a dance studio or in my room frying my brain trying to make sense of Korean grammar.

Hey guys, my name is Nur! I am a big fan of writing and helping you guys write. I am in 11th grade and I've really loved writing since my childhood. First, I started with writing short stories for children but later on, as I grew up; I found out that I am a big fan of writing psychoanalytic diaries and articles with the resources I find. I like to write whenever, wherever but especially writing in peaceful environments such as forests or near the sea is my favorite. Although this is my first year in the Writing Center, I believe that my AP Language courses are really helpful. Hey. I like to express myself in many ways such as painting and writing. Writing has always been a part of my life, it helped me to express my intense emotions and deep imagination. I particularly enjoy writing philosophical essays, writing about artworks, and horror stories. Speaking of horror, I also enjoy watching horror movies and occasionally using a little 'darkness' in my paintings from some time to time. I wish to continue to contain art, philosophy, and writing in my life for a long time.
